Any Federal Government official carrier selected to airlift Nigerian Muslim pilgrims to Mecca in Saudi Arabia for this year holy exercise that fails to complete the exercise according to terms of agreement made with the government will be sanctioned.

The Senior Special Adviser to the President on Aviation, Captain Shehu Usman Iyal, who is also chairman, Aviation Committee of the National Hajj Commission (NAHCON), dropped the hint while speaking to some aviation journalists in Abuja.
Captain Iyal, however, said erring airlines and pilgrims who failed to comply with all guidelines by the pilgrims board would be sanctioned.

He said: “I am the chairman of Aviation Committee of the National Hajj Commission (NAHCON), and that is where I concentrate on, to make sure that the right equipment are there, they come on time, everybody does what he or she is supposed to do as stakeholders and service providers.”

Speaking on efforts the government has put in place to ensure that all the pilgrims are airlifted to the holy land, Iyal stated that “if you come late, even as a pilgrim, there is a penalty against the state where you come from. If the carriers do not come on time, there are penalties and the government, through NAHCON, has obtained slots, more than enough to go in and come out.”
He the government had identified serious operators that have “acumen and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has certified all the carriers to ensure that they conform with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) rules and regulations.”
